We also specialize in remodelling your existing jewellery into sparkling unique pieces that you will treasure for years and pass onto the future generations to come.

The journey for custom designed jewellery

Unique engagement and dress ring designs, re-modelling of existing pieces, repairs, and the custom making of wedding bands to complement any engagement ring are just some of the extensive ranges of services we provide. Clients can come in the
store and choose their perfect diamond or gemstone and get an engagement ring, wedding ring, pendant, bangle, earring, or other specialty piece custom designed and made unique to their taste, style and budget. Ideas come to life with the latest 3D CAD technology enabling a more personal and involving interaction with clients in the design phase. Clients can see a three-dimensional image of the jewellery before it is made; it makes it possible to show different renderings of the same piece in different metal colours, diamonds and gemstones - there is no charge for this service. 3D renderings may not be used for all designs as different techniques may be required and used. 3D renderings are not applicable for hand crafted jewellery. Daniel gives clients a chance to create their dream piece of jewellery right in the store. Daniel will give professional advice on the diamond, gemstone and metal selection to designing the setting and deciding on the size and shape of the sparkler to suit client's budget. We advise clients to make an appointment and bring their ideas, pictures, and questions on their appointment day and Daniel and Doreen will work with you to make your visions a reality. All jewellery custom made by Daniel comes with Lifetime Manufacturing Warranty, Complimentary Certificate of Appraisal and our Complimentary After Sales Services (i.e., free resize, inspection, clean and polish etc). Daniel and Doreen hand-selects the finest diamonds and gemstones through their trusted network of suppliers, ensuring they are conflict free, all-natural, not treated, and have never been drilled, fracture-filled, or otherwise enhanced for colour or clarity and are of the highest quality to meet their client’s budget. Finest diamonds are sourced from the world’s premier mining and cutting centers together with rare argyle pink diamonds, champagne/chocolate diamonds and excellent cut hearts & arrows diamonds.

We use premium quality Australian refined metals in our custom makes.

We work with all carat yellow and rose golds. Our white gold jewellery is made using platinum 950 or palladium white gold. Palladium white gold does not require rhodium plating and is a better metal, tarnish resistant, hypoallergenic, durable and is purer than standard white gold. In addition all our jewellery is nickel free.

Sourcing the perfect diamonds and gemstones.

We are proud to be part of the SCS-007 Jewellery Sustainability Standard Series for Sustainability Rated Diamonds from SCS Global Services and are honoured to be accredited as a Retailer for selling Certified Sustainability Rated natural and lab grown diamonds. Together we can create a design as individual as you. Diamonds sourced and sold by us are independently graded by a reputable grading laboratory such as GIA. Please note that diamonds smaller than 0.30ct does not include a grading report. This does not apply to smaller Argyle Pink Diamonds as they come fully certified with grading reports. We also offer uncertified natural diamonds and pink diamonds which are meticulously graded by our reputable suppliers grading experts and their grades are verified by Daniel upon receipt.

Lab Grown Diamonds - Due to high demand we now stock lab grown diamonds that are grown by the CVD (Chemical Vapor Deposition) method. Our lab grown diamonds are grown from "Type IIa diamond seed" (which is the purest type of diamond) and have the same chemical, physical and optical properties as a natural mined diamond. Majority of the lab grown diamonds that we stock are "As Grown" meaning no post growth treatment is applied to enhance its color or appearance. Our As Grown lab diamonds are also a "Certified Sustainability Rated Diamond". As Grown lab diamonds cost more when compared to other lab grown diamonds which may have been treated post growth to enhance their colour and appearance. We can supply both types of CVD lab grown diamonds in any shape or size according to your requirements and budget. Both types include an independent grading report and are laser inscribed.

Things to keep in mind when buying diamonds, gemstones or jewellery online and/or in-store as the below factors will influence the price and value of your purchase:

  • Is the diamond certified or uncertified? This can affect prices.
  • Is the diamond and/or gemstone graded by a reputable grading laboratory such as Gemological Institute of America (GIA); International Gemological Institute (IGI) and/or HRD Antwerp Institute of Gemmology?
  • Check the cut, polish and symmetry (most important factors) of a diamond, these parameters are seldom talked about but interact with prices greatly! E.g., Ten diamonds in exact carat weight, colour and clarity can have ten vastly different prices. The above-mentioned parameters are the reasons why. Also, the location and types of inclusions in diamonds also affect its value and price.
  • Is the diamond natural or has it been subjected to any enhancement processes or treatments?
  • Is the shade and lustre of the diamond stated? Does the diamond contain a brown or green shade (tinge), or does it has a milky or cloudy appearance to it? Note that diamonds with BGM (Brown Green Milk) would be much cheaper than diamonds with no BGM.
  • Is the diamond and/or gemstone eye clean? This will also influence the price of the diamond and/or gemstone.
  • Are the metals used adhering to Australian ISO standards or was it sourced cheaper from overseas that may contain cheaper alloys and/or sub-par manufacturing standards?
  • Jewellery can look good in the picture! Is the mount hollowed on the shoulders and under the setting? Is the band made hollow and/or fine - this can compromise the structural integrity of the jewellery item? This is a very common practice that is used to bring the weight of mounts down so it can be sold at a cheaper price.
  • Are the small/melee diamonds used fine cuts or are they commercial grade?
  • What warranties are offered on the products?
  • What happens if your jewellery item starts having issues after purchase?
  • When buying jewellery or comparing prices or quotes of diamonds, engagement rings or jewellery in general, make sure you are comparing an apple with an apple.

Did you know that each diamond's price is not only based on its colour and clarity but many other important factors? Learn more under our General Education tab on our website. This applies to lab grown diamonds as well. The prices for lab grown diamonds also depends on the way its grown, if they are As Grown or not and if any treatment is applied post growth etc.

Why buy from your local manufacturing jeweller?

Accountability, trust and interacting with real people that live in your community are some of the benefits of buying from your local jeweller. If an item is purchased from overseas or online and there are any issues with the item, you may not have
access to someone that might be able to assist you promptly or you might be required to send the item back to the company which overtime can become costly. If you buy locally, you can go back to your Jeweller at any time and speak to them face to face and get your issue rectified immediately. Another benefit of buying your jewellery from a local manufacturing jeweller is it allows you to fully customise your jewellery item and tailor it to your style and budget. You will also receive advice from an expert in real-time, plus the assurance of receiving a quality product. At D&D Designer Jewellers, Daniel and Doreen aim to continue the legacies of Daniel’s great grandfather Herbert Whitney and grandfather Bob Whitney who built their businesses on trust, honesty and accountability.
